Hey guys!

Ellie is now over a year old and so it came as a surpise to find her suddenly acting like a puppy once more.  She has started chewing furiously and has also pooped inside a few times recently.  WHAT IS GOING ON?!    Dogs dont get like PMT or something do they?!  She's due to come into season next month.  It's so out of character, I just cant work it out!  I went to the local pet shop to buy some more chews this morning; I thought that was all behind us now!  I dont understand; do any of you have any clues as to why she's suddenly reverted to her old puppy ways?

I know I can't answer really well, but I have heard that a lot of chis, maybe all dogs (not sure), go through a 2nd puppy stage around a year or so old.  They will suddenly have potty accidents again and chew on stuff and everything, just like they did as a little pup.  I believe it is a stage and will pass.  Sounds like what Ellie is doing.  If I find some info on it, I'll post it.  I think that is totally normal though.

Thanks for the reply Jenn!

This did occur to me but I actually thought Ellie had already had that bit!  Not long after pups have finished teething, at about nine months of age, they suddenly start to chew again to work the new muscles and teeth, and Ellie did go through that stage, but that was ages ago and she had gone through it and stopped chewing.  I just dont know.    James' Mum said she thought Ellie was more bouncy than normal at the moment as well, so I'm thinking perhaps it's her kind of ramping up to her next season.

It's a mystery!  lol

It very well could be because Ellie is coming into her heat. That usually makes them act differently. You know like us people LOL. My cookie chews alot, she loves those beef flavored rawhides, that really takes care of there chewing.

Well, Ellie came into season about a week ago (about a month later than I had thought she would!).  Her behaviour is back to normal now.  She has remembered that she does her business outside and her chewing is far far less.  w00t.gif  We still have chews and she likes them, so they'll stay for the moment.

Selena, I have sometimes wondered if I should get her a companion as I am forced to rest a lot due to my illness, so Ellie is probably bored at times.  Her coming into season has really pushed to the surface my desire of breeding her!  lol  I am just thinking about it for her next season.
