Does anyone have any EASY recipe's that I could make for Bella. She continues to be itching constantly and the the Vet insists that it is food allergies. We have tried several different foods. I was considering making her some food instead to decrease the likelihood of allergies from the store bought foods. Problem for me is...I don't cook, and I work full time and then some, so time is crucial to me also. I am hoping that someone on here will be able to give me an easy recipe, maybe something I could do in a crock-pot on the weekend and then just warm up for her during the week for breakfast and dinner. Thank you all for your input!
The problem with homecooking is that most of the time it is nutritionally inadequate for the dog. There are a lot of suppliments that will need to be added as well.
If you have the time, I would go with a raw diet. A great website is:
www.rawdogranch.com
For a small dog, I would buy a heavy duty food grinder to grind up the bones and meat, and then store the portions in baggies. It is a lot of work, though (which is why we still do kibble and raw only sometimes).
I'll check in my folders tonight to see if I have any recipes for homecooked food, as well as any websites which explain how to properly suppliment inorder to have a diet that is 100% complete.
Have you tried an elimination diet yet? There are so many foods out on the market for allergies, and I'd be willing to bet that one would work.
Jessie 'the dog-food-super-woman' on the case! lol How do you know soooo much girl?! You're so clever!
Ellie has food allergies too, to maize and soy. It took me a year of trial and error to find the right food for her! There's not really anything for me to add I dont think, Jessie did a good job. I'd be quite wary of making my own food for Ellie as getting the nutritional amounts accurate is hard. Good luck with it, and please do let us know how you get on.
Thanks for the input. I have tried TONS of food for her and NOTHING has lessened her itching at all. I hate to take "forever" to figure it out as she itches SO much that there are scabs all over little body. I have been working on the "elimination" diet stuff for about 9 months and nothing has helped. I am just at a loss and want the best for her and for her to feel her best.
Oh Heather, I had no idea it was this bad honey; I'm so sorry to hear little Bella isn't doing so well!
I think perhaps you are right to be looking into making your own food, it sounds like she is one delicate flower! Poor baby. I know Elena was trying to make her own dog food for Pixie, perhaps she'd have some recipes she could lend you?
Do let us know how Bella gets on, wont you? I'd really love to hear if this new food works for her!
Elena, some of those recipes look good enough for me to eat! lol I dont know enough about dog nutrition to say whether or not they'd be nutritionally sound for every day or not, but they sure sound good! lol
Thank you everyone for your help and thanks for the Email Elena, I really appreciate all of it. I will update you all on how things are going. Thank you all again!!!
Prissy has allergies too but she won't eat anything but Iams and table food. The vet had me put her on Childrens Benadryl. She takes a half a teaspoon twice a day. She is doing a lot better now and her sores are healed and fur coming back. The Vet said it was better then steroids for her. I also put triple antibiotic cream on the sores to help them heal.
