Fancy, my oldest girl, hasn't been perky the last two days... She has always had a sensitive stomach and now with "old age" creepin' up on her... she has some "yucky" days..The vet says nothing there to treat, just the aging process.. She will be 11 this year...Here's  my Fancy girl..   Deb

Bless her. She's just beautiful and I hope she feels better soon. It's hard to see them not feeling their best, especially when nothing can be done about it. Hugs to Fancy!

Poor Fancy - hope she feels better soon.

Have you ever tried sea cucumber for her?  i've heard it's great for older dogs - i'm getting some for my saint who has arthritis.  Supposed to give some of the spunk back to them - good for joints and all over health.

Thanks girls... Sue, I am not familiar with a sea cucumber. Can you give me some more info about it and where to obtain it? I appreciate any advice. Thanks, Deb

Hi Deb - i heard about sea cucumbers when i was doing rescue - i know of someone who had a 13 year old shepherd mix who was arthritic and just that general "getting old syndrome" of not doing much or feeling good.  Her vet (who is a holistic vet) suggested them - she said within a week it was like having a young dog again - appetite was much better, dog was running -even stealing food from counters again.
The general premise is that a sea cucumber has a "sophisticated immune system" - they've survived for thousands of years (and have been consumed as delicacy by people for hundreds) - they have great cellular immunity, protein builders, etc.
They are supposed to be great for joint mobility, as well as overall health and well-being - lots of omega-3s, green tea, pro-biotics, ester-C, etc. and are for humans, dogs or cats
www.coastsidebio.com in Maine is where i ordered mine - they have a sea jerky or sea bones (with no wheat which is a big factor now with all these recalls) made specifically for smaller breeds.
You might also try some acidophilus for her tummy -revival animal health carries that as well as some other supplements and/or holistic products that might help.
I've gone a lot of holistic/supplement  routes with all my dogs now - getting vitamin C every winter (just like me and the kids LOL) - certain oils for coats, etc.   They're finding more and more that this works better and so am I

Hope this helps

Sue

Poor Fancy, I hope she feels better soon :(

That is really interesting about the sea cucumbers. We have a salt water reef tank, and one of the inhabitants is a sea cucumber.

I like to go the holistic route as well... we use suppliments with our dogs as well, and they are fed a grain free holistic food (Orijen). I bookmarked the sea cucumber page to check out later :D

Deb, I'm so glad to hear Fancy is doing better. She sure is a doll. If you try the sea cucumbers on her let us know how they work.
