Puppy Teeth Question
Permalink Closed

Roxie Anna is 6 months old now and has not had a problem shedding her pup teeth until her upper canines came in. They are almost completely in in front of the baby teeth and the puppy teeth are still there. Will the puppy teeth eventually fall out or do we need to go to the vet and spend mega bucks to have them pulled ?weirdface The permanent teeth are in the correct position and have just pushed the little puppy teeth back a little. She chews on everything we give her..rawhide sticks, dry food, milk bones etc. Still need more advice on car sickness also. Thanks so much ....

If you leave the puppy teeth in, you could possibly put her whole bite off. Aside from that, I'm sure things could get stuck between the sets and end up with major tooth decay. If she's going to be spayed (can't remember) they can pull her teeth during the spay. If not, they can schedule it on it's own, but I have no idea what the cost would be. The cots of vet stuff varies wildly across the country.

Both my vet and my breeder told me that if you notice that there are two sets there, you can try to gently manipulate the baby tooth little by little every day, and it is just like a human baby tooth, it will eventually come out. And worst case senario, they would pull them out for me.

So, after reading this post the other day, I noticed that Merrie's teeth looked kind of odd when she flashed me her pearly whites.  With a bit of persuasion I managed to get her to open up and show me her teeth, and lo and behold, her adult teeth are in on the bottom also, and her baby teeth are still there.  So I will try and take my own advice and do some wiggling myself, but I really don't think it will be easy, lol, Merrie hasn't always been an easy one for holding down, even when we have practiced it daily.  If she thinks that she is getting her claws done, or some medicine, or have me look at her teeth, she is the wiggliest puppy you ever did see.....at least she doesn't scream bloody murder anymore like she did when she was a little pup!!!  I actually had to wrap her in a towel to get her to hold still enough to open her mouth, all the while telling her calmly that she is such a good girl...but I tell you, you's think by the look on her face I was going to pull those teeth myself!!  So, back to practicing again....wish me luck, I know I will need it!!!

This is interesting to me because i just had my Tippy's teeth cleaned and 2 baby teeth pulled that she never dropped. She's nearly 5 years old now and if i would have been her owner for her entire life it would have been done sooner. But she's doing so well now and seems to know how nice her breath smells now as opposed to the tartar she had on those old baby teeth all icky. Her teeth are so pretty now. Her entire attitude has changed for the better and she's eating better and just feels well.

We are 8 1/2 months now and still have those extra pearly white upper canines. I keep looking to make sure they are not pushing the others out of alignment.. I cannot wiggle them loose either. I guess after the grandbaby is born in 5 weeks and I get back from Oklahoma I will have to get something done. Argh!!!!

I think I will have to check Precious and Boomer tomorrow as I hadn't thought about their teeth not being right until I read this. I had to have the dentist remove a few of my sons teeth that wouldn't loosen up and come out so I guess it's the same in pups as children.
