Does anyone else's Chis chase cars?  Ellie has developed this new and highly dngerous activity!  Obviously I discourage it and she's never off her lead when we're near a road, but it still worries me!  I've seen dogs do this in the past but they've always been larger breeds.  I assume it's some kind of wolf characterisit left over in them, you know, a moving 'animal' (car) must be chased and hunted down and all that.  lol  I dont know if I'm anywhere close to the reason behind this puzzling behaviour, but that's just what I imagine might be the reason!  lol

Any ideas?  Anyone else's dogs do it?

Not sure how to stop it Jess - but I do know reason - it's actually the sound of the wheels turning.   As the car is driving, the wheels actually emit a high pitch noise - inaudible to us but not dogs.  Almost like the dog whistles.   That's why they chase them :(   And that's why only certain dogs do it - you know how you sometimes have ones that don't respond to the dog whistle or certain other noises and others do?

Maybe there's a way to desensitize Ellie to it?   I'm not sure exactly how.   If i see the trainer i know, i'll ask

Thanks Sue, that amakes a LOT of sense!  Ellie has the most amazing hearing I've ever known, she will some times rush off towards a car that's passing on the big road about 800 metres away, over the hill!  lol  Crazy!  lol

I could probably clicker train her out of it I suppose, but just wanted to know if anyone else has ever had experience with it or not.

Thanks again honey!

Sorry, Jess...luckily, I've never had that problem. I've never had it with any of the breeds I've owned. I'm sure there's a way to help Ellie with this behavior. Hopefully, someone here can give ya the advice you need.
