How to find a vet?
Permalink Closed

We went through four vets back in BC and had finally found one that we liked... and now of course we're all the way out here in Toronto. Corona needs to be spayed ASAP... but I don't want to just flip through the phone book and pick out a name, especially for something like that.

Back home, we got recommendations from friends, but out here, I don't know anyone with a pet. So how do I go about choosing a vet?

I have heard that some Vets have lists of clients that allow their numbers to be given out so ppl can call them and ask about their experiences. You may ask about that at some places. Also I'd find out things like how long they have been in business, if they specialize in any particular thing, if they have emergency service, and check out the Vet's credientials. There should also be a Vet Medical Board you can contact for info on any Vets in your area. And here's something very important: Trust your gut. If you are uneasy or uncomfortable with something you hear, see, or feel at the Vet's, go elsewhere. Best of luck! thumbsup.gif

I think Jenn gave you the best advice there.  Good job honey!  clap.gif

If you dont have any references for the Vets in your area then check out their credentials, like Jenn said.  Most Vets specialise in a particular breed/size of animal so look for one that spcialises in small dogs.  Also, when you go and see them for the first time ask if they have any other Chihuahua patients.  If they do it's probably safe to assume they're good with them.  And as Jenn said trust your gut.

Let us know how you get on?

x
