My names Melissa and im new to the forum, I don't own a Chi but I am extremly interested in getting one within the next year. I want Reg'd Chi that I can use for show and to be my spoiled companion. I have experience with breeding large dogs but this would be my first time getting into the smaller breed, what should I concider before purchasing a Chihuahua? I am looking for a short hair chihuahua, im not to picky about colours but I particularily like the black and tan, brown, fawn and reds(im new to Chi so i don't really know all the colours they come in yet) So i would just like to make some Chi friends on here for whom I can perhaps purchase a Chi from or just get some advice Thankyou All
Hi Missy, Welcome to the site. We are a close knit group and you will love it here. Everyone is sooo sweet and helpful and will help you in any way we can. Some of us even IM each other.
Hello and WELCOME Melissa!!! It's great to meet you, and I think you'll find tthis place very useful if you're considering a Chi! There are a fair few breeders on here who might be able to help you find that perfect baby you're after.
I bought my Chi, Ellie, to show too and if you can get into it it's a great hobby, loads of fun!
I really hope you enjoy iy here, and I look forward to chatting with you! If you need anything, help with the site or whtever please dont hesitate to holla, k?
Hi Melissa, welcome to the board! I'm pretty new to Chi's myself, just got my first little girl this spring... and I already want another! lol Stick around, this is a good place to be!
Hi and welcome to the group You will find several of us that breed and I'm sure you will find plenty of info and help within our group and there are some who show as well
Hi Melissa! Welcome to the list! IF you are planning to show and you don't know what colors chihuahuas come in yet, I think you've got a LOT of research to do before you buy a chihuahua, to be honest. All puppies are cute, most are NOT show quality. You want to know what you are looking at BEFORE you get caught up in a tiny bundle of cuteness. OR you may have a house full of cuteness before you can stop yourself. HAHA! Start with the Chihuahua Club of America's website. Look at the standard there. Google will be your friend. Look up some winning show dogs and see what they look like. More importantly see what they looked like as puppies. You will probably be buying puppies and they look a LOT different than adult show dogs. There is a breeder that has a site jammed with information also. www.prouxchihuahuas.com There are links galore all down the left side, it is well worth keeping in your favorite places. Also be aware that the merle coloration, while so many of us love it, may be disqualified from the show ring soon. Don't let anyone sell you a "show merle" at this point. Assume any merles will be pet quality now and you won't be disappointed later. There are several large chihuahua lists on Yahoo. I would also suggest you join one or two of those lists and start soaking up all that information. You may also find a mentor there that can look at pictures of any pup you might want to buy, and help you make good decisions. And last but not least, don't buy a "show quality' chihuahua from a breeder who has never been to a show. You are asking for heartache there. I see it ALL the time, and most of those puppies are so far from show quality it is laughable. I don't have show quality pups here, so I can't help you with that. If you tell me where you are located, and if shipping is an option, I can point you to a couple breeders that have show quality pups that I actually trust though. Hope to see you around here a lot!
I am afraid I missed it too. Welcome and I hope you jump right in and post away. You will learn a lot about chis here and also see many beautiful pics of them as well.
Well, i'm going to join the crowd that missed the post also :)
but
I wholeheartedly agree with Karen's post about doing lots and lots of research. I am now to being owned by a chi (just starting a year ago september) and am now owned by 6 !!!!! I am also new to showing and am learning the ropes - and believe me, there's a lot to learn but i love it :)
