Ugh, I feel so terrible for my poor little Corona!! She had her spay surgery this morning, plus two retained canine teeth removed... I went and picked her up about a half hour ago and she's just not my little girl at all. She's lethargic, unsteady on her feet, her poor little belly is all sucked in, she's wining quietly... and Im on the verge of tears!!
Stacey just be brave. She will get to feeling better by the morning. I cried when Abby was spayed because she would cry if we were not really careful when we picked her up. Also she had trouble pooping because it hurt so don"t be alarmed if Corona cries out when she poops too. Does she have a little band around her tummy where the stitches are? That makes them look so skinny and sickly. We laid down in the floor with her even just to be nearer. I hope she is feeling better soon. And I hope her Mommy(you) will be okay also. Poor Corona, hugs and kisses for you from Becky and the sunshine girls. PS Abby did not stay over night either and we got no pain meds either. I wish we had of had some pain meds for her for the 1st night and day home. Deb, I think your vet must be really compassionate.
The anesthetic effect is probably causing her to be unsteady on her feet.. But didn't they give you pain meds for her discomfort? Our vet always keeps females overnight when they have the spay operation so they can remain on IV meds for pain and hydration, but even when we pick them up we are provided oral pain meds in case they are needed. Usually 3 tablets to get them thru the major soreness time. Poor tiny little Corona... this breaks my heart for her.. I hope she is better soon.. Perhaps a heating pad would help her soreness..

Yes, Stacey, please call them and get her something for pain if they didn't provide them.. She is so precious and so tiny, I can't stand thinking of her hurting like that when it isn't necessary.. Abby's pain meds helped her rest and sleep thru most of the tramatic period.

Thanks guys... she was given pain meds during the surgery, so cant have any more today... but they did send me home with some - half a tablet each day, for four days.
I cuddled her for a while and then offered her her bed (crate) which she seemed happy to climb into. She's here in it beside me right now, but I'm thinking Ill put it in the bathroom so she doesnt have to go so far to her pee pad and the water if she wants some.
I didnt think this would be so hard on ME! haha I hope she heals up quickly, with no problems.
Stacey, will she eat a little something for you? Maybe offer her a favorite treat or something that is special. Abby ate a little chicken and rice with the juice drained off the first day she was home. It took her a couple of days to get back on the kibble. Plus, since she had teeth removed as well as the spay, her little mouth is sore also.. something soft to eat would be good.. She needs her strength to heal.. Prayers for her... Just give her lots of "poor babies" and love.

I was advised not to feed her tonight... or at least not until "as late as possible" and then only 1/4 of what she normally gets, so I'll wait a few hours yet. Thankfully I've been mixing her kibble with soft food for a couple of weeks now, so I'll just give her straight soft food for the next couple of days.
She seems a little more alert and steady on her feet now... still obviously not feeling well, but I saw a tiny spark.
I notice now a rather foul smell... but I cant tell if it's from her mouth, or the incision, and don't know if maybe it's just normal because of the blood... yikes... dont really want to go poking around though, as it's likely nothing and Id just make her sore.
I think the smell is just the post op smell, old blood and such, but I would monitor it along with her recovery.. When May was spayed last year it was because of estrogen tumors. So along with the spay, she had eight tumors and a mastectomy done.. She was so sore, when I brought her home I did crate her because she was still gorggy. Then when that wore off, I opened the door put water and a peepad nearby, then I slept on the floor beside the crate so she would know I was near by, She got better each day, but would still retreat to the crate when she got tired, She was never crated before, but I think she just liked going in there because it was quit and she could not jump up on the couch.. Best of luck Stacey, I think you feel almost as bad as she does, but look at the problems you saved her from later in life
Well good news... Corona is much peppier this morning, wagging her little bum and trotting around. The incision looks good and she's back to wanting belly scratches, and she was happy to eat a bit this morning as well.
Now, I just hope she'll stay quiet while she heals up fully!
I'm glad Corona is feeling better this morning. I was going to have Imp spade but now I don't know. Maybe I'll wait till my son takes her. That way they can take care of her and there won't be any other dogs around. Give Corona a big hug from me.
