Your vet is sorely mistaken, my pure bred great dane (who I have seen 3 generations on and they are all dane) has black spots on his gums, and i wouldnt even doubt that he's pure bred for a minute. Same with 2 of my chis (scrappy and yoda) they both have atleast 1 black spot on their gums but are pure bred chis.
